Autonomous last-mile delivery that lands at the balcony instead of the lobby, and hands the resident the decision.
ULT is a two-week concept for autonomous last-mile delivery in dense vertical housing. A pod flies the parcel to the resident's own balcony, and the handover is confirmed by the resident from their phone rather than left to a courier's judgement.
In a tower, the last hundred metres are the expensive part. Lobbies, parcel rooms, and buzzer codes exist because the final handover has no reliable place to happen, and every one of those workarounds adds a step where the parcel can go missing. I treated that handover as the design problem rather than the flight.
The pod arrives, the camera shows the resident exactly what is at their window, and nothing is released until they accept it.
The interface exists for one moment, the seconds when a machine is hovering outside somebody's window and they have to decide whether to open it.
The interesting part of autonomous delivery is not the flight, it is the consent at the end of it.
Two weeks was enough to establish the interaction and not much more. What I would want next is the failure path, since the concept only becomes a service once it answers what happens when nobody accepts, when the wrong window is approached, and who is accountable when a pod is at the glass and the resident is not home.
